Builders
How to brief a builder in Denmark
Byg on this site means building and renovation: kitchens, bathrooms, facades and whole jobs. It is not one protected job title. The English builder lists match the Danish byg pages. Names, addresses and phone numbers stay as they are on those pages.
Scope beats the total
| Danish | In this context |
|---|---|
| byg | building work |
| renovering | renovation |
| tilbud | quote |
| arbejdsløn | labour |
| materialer | materials |
| nedrivning | demolition |
| membran | waterproof membrane, in a wet room |
| AB 18 | Danish standard terms for building contracts, only if the contract says so |
Two quotes with the same total can leave out demolition, the membrane, or moving pipes. Ask for a written quote that splits labour and materials. Electrical and plumbing parts of a renovation still need the authorised trades. A builder who “does the whole flat” should say who signs for the fixed wiring and the fixed pipes.
AB 18 is a set of standard conditions for building and civil engineering. It applies when the contract says it applies. A small painting job does not pick it up by itself. If the quote mentions AB 18, read the payment schedule before you sign.
A message you can send
That asks for labour and materials separately, and asks whether demolition, plumbing and electrical work are included.
Ordinary kitchen or bathroom renovation is usually outside the green deduction. Check the deduction page before you treat a tax refund as part of the budget. If you rent, a structural change needs the landlord. See rental repairs.
