Locksmiths

Locked out in Denmark: what to say

Locksmith is låsesmed. The Danish pages behind the English locksmith links are filed as Låsesmed & døre, which means locksmith and doors. A name on that list can be a locksmith, a door carpenter, or both. The list does not say which person will answer the phone in English.

There is no nationwide “authorised locksmith” register of the same kind as the electrical and plumbing registers at Sikkerhedsstyrelsen. Ask for a CVR number and an invoice. Look the number up on datacvr.virk.dk. Ask whether the visit is lock work or door carpentry before you accept a price.

A message you can send

Hej. Jeg er låst ude på [adresse], [etage] og [dør]. Kan I komme nu? Skriv venligst prisen for et døgnvagt-besøg, før I kører. Venlig hilsen [navn] [telefon]

That says you are locked out, gives the floor and the door, and asks for the call-out price before they drive.

If you are a tenant

Changing the lock on a rented door often needs the landlord’s agreement, because the landlord may need a key. Write to the landlord as well as the locksmith. A lost key is not the same as a broken lock the landlord has to repair. Read who pays in a rented home before you replace a cylinder and keep the only new key.

English locksmith lists exist only for cities where the Danish door list already has firms. Other cities are not given an empty page.
